Under the leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi, Union Government launched a social welfare scheme called PM Ujjwala Yojana, also known as the PMUY scheme. The main tagline of the scheme was Swachh Indhan, Behtar Jeevan. On 1st May 2016, PM Narendra Modi started the distribution of Free LPG gas cylinders to BPL card households.

Objective of PMUY
Since Independence, the rural resident women of India have used the traditional methods for cooking. With an objective to provide a smoke-free cooking experience, the Government of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Scheme.
In the 2016 Financial Budget, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs allocated Rs.8000/- Crore Rupees to provide 5 crore LPG connections to BPL or Ration cardholders. The scheme’s main objective is to promote women’s empowerment and provide healthy carbon-free fossil fuel for cooking in rural areas.
Benefits to the Beneficiaries
Under the PMUY scheme, the Government will provide Free LPG Gas Connection. As per the rule, the beneficiaries will receive a cash advance incentive of Rs.1600/-. Using this money, he will get the following item:

Along with the gas Cylinder and Accessories, the respective oil marketing company such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, HP Gas will provide interest-free loans to purchase your first LPG Cylinder refill along with the gas stove. You can pay the entire amount in small EMIs.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is mainly aimed at women’s empowerment. Hence the benefits will be credited to the women of the family. The terms and eligibility criteria for this scheme are as follows:

How to Apply Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana?
The beneficiaries can apply the PM Ujjwala Yojana Application through pmuy.gov.in official portal. Before proceeding to the online application form, identify a suitable LPG Gas distributor near your location or click here. You have to follow the following instructions given here:
Step-1: First of all, eligible people visit the official portal by Clicking Here.
Step-2: Now click on the Link to Apply for New Ujjwala 2.0 Connection as shown in the image.
Step-3: Next, there will be three OMC options for you to choose from. You can choose as per your location.
Step-4: Once you click on the link, it will redirect you to the OMC Online Application portal. There you select your nearest Gas Distribution Name
Step-5: Now click on the Next button and a new Ujjwala Application form will appear on your screen. Now select Ujjwala Beneficiaries Connection from the top bar and start filling the application form.
Step-6: Once you fill in all the details like Aadhaar Number, Address, and Cylinder Type, Upload all the required Documents and Submit the Application form.
Step-7: Next, the OMCs will verify your e-KYC application form and issue a cylinder along with the gas stove.
